One of the most renowned of the 'Free style Arts & Crafts' designers and architects, Sir edwin landseer Lutyens was born in London. In 1912 Lutyens was chosen to lay out the capital of India, New Delhi and was as famous for his work on private houses reflecting the vernacular styles of his native Surrey as was his designs for country houses and public buildings. his characteristic style was unique for the use of straight and curved elements in the ornamental detail shown in the drawing below.

After the First World War, as architect to the Imperial War Graves Comission, he designed many memorials, including the Cenotaph and also planned Hampstead Garden Suburb, in north London.
